The castle was built after French role models by architect Nicodemus Tessin the Elder on behalf of Queen Hedvig Eleonora. Several royals have since left their mark on the castle. Today, the palace is the permanent residence of the King and Queen.
Drottningholm Castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Visit to the castle and the castle garden, time spent about 1.5 hours.
Combine it with a visit to the pleasure castle of China Castle and the 18th century castle theater or visit the Museum de Vries in the old Dragon Stables with bronze sculptures from the 17th century.
